House of Medea

Before I took my
Vows

My grandmother
Once told me

To never completely
Surrender
To any man

And save something
For myself

She also advised

Marry a man
Who will love me
More than I love him

You will be
Taken for granted
And much more
Will be taken from you

You will become his wife
Lose your father’s name and homeland

You will become his wife
Lose your first name and identity

You will become his wife
Lose your body and bear his children

You will become his wife
Mistress of his home and he will
Become the master of you

And like my grandmother
Taught me

I will also teach my granddaughter
To save something for herself

Because unlike
Medea who said
I am lost

My children children will not
Pay for the price of my revenge

Lady Godiva

You did not
Take me

To the Devon
Horse Show

Instead
You wanted
To corral me

And ride me
Like a wild
Stallion

Feeling the
Power of
My strength

Between
Your legs

Thrusting
Up and down

In and out

My naked
Black beauty
Against

Mar and manicured
Skin

Instead you
Walk around
The fair grounds
Like a lady

In a grand hat
Where your mind
Rests

Thinking about
Me alone in
The stables

Mounting
For another round
Irresistible
Like dark chocolate

Lady Godiva

Love’s Rock

Momma’s love
Is my rock

She gives
Solomon’s advice

She listens
With a forgiving heart

She speaks her mind
With many years of wisdom

Sometimes
I stay to myself
And keep things from her

But she waits patiently
Because she knows

And she accepts
That I need time to myself

She’s there for me
Like no other
And when
I am ready

She comforts me
With the love and healing
That my heart and mind are seeking

She loves me
Her love for me is like a rock
